Listen to the Cadillac Escalade V’s Burly Supercharged V-8
This video shows the Cadillac Escalade V accelerating hard, and the sound is telling.
It’s expected to use GM’s supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 engine that’s also found in the CT5-V Blackwing and C7 Corvette Z06.
The high-performance three-row SUV is expected to make its debut sometime this year.
Our spy photographers have caught the forthcoming Cadillac Escalade V testing once again, further indicating that the high-performance model is on the way. And this time you can hear its powerful V-8 at full throttle. Even though Cadillac said the 10Best-winning CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwings would be the last gas-powered V cars, it appears this powerful three-row SUV will soon arrive as an American alternative to other super-SUVs such as the Mercedes-AMG GLS63.
It’s not yet clear if the Escalade V will also use the Blackwing name, but it is expected to use the same engine as the CT5-V Blackwing. The supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 makes 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque in that sedan, and the quad-tip exhaust seen on these Escalade prototypes looks similar to the Blackwing’s. We expect the LT4’s output to be lower in the Escalade V, however. Currently, the Escalade is offered with two engine choices: a 420-hp 6.2-liter V-8 or a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter inline-six.
